According to the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, more than 20% of global jobs will be significantly transformed by 2030, driven by technological breakthroughs, climate goals, demographic shifts, and geopolitical events. While this evolution has the potential to create 170 million new employment, it may also displace 92 million existing ones.
The World Economic Forum's guidebook Matching Talent to the Jobs of Tomorrow presents a five-step methodology for navigating these disruptions and better connecting talent with emerging possibilities. The recommendations are:
1. Gather Dynamic Data on Job Trends
Use real-time, tech-enabled data collection to track labor market shifts and predict future skills demand. Tools like AI and APIs enhance accuracy and responsiveness in job matching.
Example: Guatemala’s Moving Forward programme uses predictive analytics for better accuracy.
2. Create a Common Jobs Terminology
Standardize job titles, skills, and qualifications across sectors and geographies to eliminate misalignment and improve clarity between job seekers and employers.
Example: SkillsFuture Singapore aligns public and private sector skills frameworks.
3. Ensure Trustworthy Jobs Data
Leverage technologies like blockchain for secure credentials and AI-based assessments to build confidence in job-matching systems and expand access to verified talent pools.
Example: Nigeria’s National Talent Export Programme uses AI for screening and validation.
4. Use AI to Widen Skills Access
Employ personalized, AI-driven learning platforms to support upskilling and reskilling, especially for underrepresented groups or those affected by workforce transitions.
Example: Sweden’s Arbetsförmedlingen helps immigrants and low-skilled workers integrate.
5. Use LLMs to match workers to jobs
Utilize AI and LLMs to deliver personalized job recommendations, taking into account both qualifications and individual motivations to align people with fulfilling career paths.
Example: France Travail integrates AI with human expertise for tailored career pathways.
Effective job matching is a shared responsibility between public employment services, private sector leaders, and educational institutions. By using AI and data-driven approaches, stakeholders can empower people to thrive in the jobs of tomorrow while building more inclusive and resilient labor markets.
